It has been confirmed that Buick will move forward with its first EV, the Buick Electra. While initially a rumor, the Buick Electra was officially confirmed based on recent trademark filings by the automaker. In addition to the electric SUV, Buick will introduce a high-performance Electra GS trim. Based on the trademarks, the Electra nameplate will consist of a variety of EVs rather than just one vehicle. As of late, Buick has been focused on its electrification efforts. Despite this, the automaker is still updating its combustion engine vehicles like the Buick Encore GX. An all-new crossover SUV called the Buick Envista has also been revealed. While EVs have remained a priority, the Electra will be the first EV to be offered by Buick. We’ll take a look at the trademark filings and see what consumers can expect.

Buick Electra EV Family Confirmed

Based on recent trademark filings, the Buick Electra EV will be entering production. Initially, just a rumor, General Motors’ recent trademark filings indicate that the Electra moniker will be used. Nine filings for the Electra E1 through Electra E9 were processed, which leads many to believe that the name will represent an entire family of EV vehicles. This is a good start for Buick as the automaker has looked toward EVs but hasn’t officially announced any. We now know that the Buick Electra will be one of the first EVs to release from the automaker.

Arriving alongside the Buick Electra is a high-performance Electra GS trim. As discovered in the filings, this may be a more powerful trim that offers stronger capabilities and a larger battery. While not much information has been revealed, the trademarks indicate that a large Electra family may be on the way. As such, there will likely be a variety of EVs with various strengths.

Buick has previously teased an EV concept called the Wildcat EV, but the recent trademarks pointing have stronger indications of an official EV. The automaker revealed the Wildcat EV as part of a speculative design sketch for possible EVs. While we’re not quite sure what the Buick Electra will look like, the sleek and flowy lines used for the Wildcat give us an idea of what to expect. Buick has confirmed that two electric SUVs are on their way to the U.S. While the Buick Electra will be one, we’re uncertain what the second will be. Until then, we’ll be staying tuned for more information.
