GM’s Electric Hummer Reaches 90,000 Reservations

It’s time for General Motors to close out reservations for the all-electric GMC Hummer Pickup and SUV. The powerfully-equipped “Watts to Freedom” tandem received over 90,000 reservations before sealing its orders last Wednesday (September 21, 2022). 

With reservations coming to a close, it allows General Motors the space to complete the current list of secured Hummers. In addition, the orders will keep the Sierra 1500 automaker busy well into 2024. Furthermore, the starting price for the monstrous GMC vehicle ranges anywhere from $85,000 to $111,000. 

On Thursday (September 22, 2022), reservations are officially closed. So anyone looking to get their hands on the Hummer EV must wait for the 2X model. Furthermore, the Hummer EV 2X will open reservations in the Spring of 2023. 

GM has gradually ramped up production of the Hummer EV pickup since the beginning of 2022. Yet, surprisingly, the American automaker barely managed to sell 400 Hummers by the end of June. Nonetheless, the Hummer SUV will hit the dealerships and arrive to enthusiasts by early 2023. 

Global Head of GMC, Duncan Aldred, stated that production of the Hummer SUV would happen more swiftly than the pickup. However, the Pickup variation of the resurrected legend was the first to premiere GM’s next-generation Ultium platform and batteries. 

“We knew it would be a slow ramp. But next year, when you look at the calendar year, I think you’ll see a normalized year. When we produce SUVs, that should get into stride right away. Next year is a big year for Hummer EV, both truck and SUV.”
