A prototype for the all-new all-electric Buick Electra was recently spotted being tested. Officially confirmed for production by General Motors, the electric crossover SUV was initially spotted in China. Now it seems the Buick Electra will make its way to markets. As its first EV, Buick is hoping to join the EV fervor. While the Buick Electra initially started as a concept vehicle, it will make up several vehicles according to the recent trademark filings. Looking at the trademark filings, the Electra will carry numbers E1 through E9 to differentiate them. The Buick Electra that was recently spotted is believed to be the Electra E4. We’ll take a closer look at the spy shots and see what consumers can expect.

Buick Electra E4 Spotted While Testing

A prototype for the all-new Buick Electra was recently spotted being tested. While the all-electric crossover SUV was recently confirmed for production by General Motors (GM), it is still unclear if it will be available in United States markets. The Buick Electra was first seen in China, but recent information is indicating that the crossover SUV may make its way overseas. The clearest evidence of this is that the Electra name has several trademark filings for it. This means the EV SUV will consist of a family of EVs. Another strong indicator that the Electra may arrive overseas is that the recent prototype was seen being tested in Milford, Michigan. Whether Buick brings the Buick Electra to the U.S, we will have to wait and see. The automaker would do well in offering an array of electric vehicles given the recent fervor, however.

As for the prototype that was spotted, based on its dimensions and proportions, it’s believed that the EV crossover SUV was the Electra E4. As one of nine vehicles, it seems that the Electra E4 will arrive as a compact crossover SUV. The SUV was wrapped in full camouflage, but we were still able to identify pop-out door handles. We also noted the shape of the headlights and taillights. The actual design, however, was unidentifiable.

The Buick Electra E4 is expected to ride on GM’s Ultium EV architectural platform. Gm will partner with LG Chem in order to develop lithium-ion batteries for the platform. It’s also expected that the Buick Electra E4 will arrive with a single motor on the rear axle for a rear-wheel drive setup. A dual-motor setup will likely be offered as well. For now, the big question is whether the Buick Electra will make its way to the United States. Since there are supposedly nine versions of the electric SUV being produced, at least one should make its way to U.S markets. Until more information is released, we’ll be staying tuned.
